Hallgeir Brenden (born February 10, 1929 in Trysil , † September 21, 2007 in Lillehammer ) was a Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Brenden, who started for Vestre Trysil IL, had his first international successes at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo . There he won the silver medal with the relay and the gold medal over 18 km. The following year he was third over 18 km at the Lahti Ski Games . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1954 in Falun , he won fourth place with the relay. Two years later he won the gold medal over 15 km at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . He also achieved 14th place over 30 km and fourth place with the relay. In the same year he won the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 15 km and also finished second behind Arvo Viitanen over 50 km. In March 1956 he came in second place over 18 km at the Lahti Ski Games.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1958 Brenden ran on 22nd place over 15 km, 19th place over 30 km and fourth place with the relay. In March 1958 he was third over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. In 1959 he succeeded in the Svenska Skidspelen second with the relay. At the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , he won the silver medal with the relay. He also took 12th place over 15 km and ninth place over 30 km and 50 km. In March 1961 he took second place over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 , he came fourth with the relay. In the following year he won the 15 km run for the second time at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At Norwegian championships he won three times over 15 km (1955, 1956, 1960), three times over 18 km (1951–1953), three times over 30 km (1952, 1956, 1961) and three times with the relay of Vestre Trysil IL (1955, 1956, 1960).

In 1952 Brenden was honored with the Egebergs Ærespris and the Morgenbladet gold medal, in 1955 with the Holmenkollen medal and in 1956 with the Fearnleys olympiske ærespris . He was also a successful athlete ; in 1953 and 1954 he became Norwegian champions in the 3000 meter obstacle course .
