Renato Pasini (born July 31, 1977 in Gazzaniga ) is an Italian cross-country skier .

Career

Renato Pasini lives in Gromo and starts for the CS Forestale . He made his international debut at the 1996 Junior World Championships in Asiago . The best result was a 14th place over 30 kilometers. In the following years he started in the Continental Cup. He contested his first World Cup race, a 10-kilometer race, in March 2000 in Bormio and finished 77th. In the following years, Pasini developed into a specialist in sprint races and took several places close to the top ten. However, it was not until February 2003 that he and Freddy Schwienbacher advanced into the world class for the first time as third place at the Team Sprint World Cup in Asiago. Even after that, he was not able to establish himself permanently in the top of the world and commuted between World Cup and Continental Cup and FIS races. In the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin Pasini started the sprint, finishing in 18th place. The 2006/07 season was particularly successful for the Italian . First he won his first World Cup sprint in Rybinsk , a little later at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo in 2007 he became world champion in team sprint alongside Cristian Zorzi , after he had previously been disqualified in the individual sprint. He finished the season in 38th place in the overall World Cup and 14th in the Sprint World Cup. At the Tour de Ski 2007/08 , he came in 53rd place. At the beginning of the 2008/09 season he finished third in the sprint in Davos . In the further course of the season he reached second place in the team sprint together with Fabio Pasini in Vancouver and took his second World Cup victory in the sprint in Rybinsk. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec , he finished 14th in the sprint and 13th in the team sprint. At the end of the season he achieved 75th place at the World Cup finals in Falun and reached 20th place in the overall World Cup and second place behind Ola Vigen Hattestad in the Sprint World Cup . In the following season he came in seven World Cup participations in the sprint, six times in the points and once in the top ten. At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, he took 20th place in the sprint and eighth place in the team sprint. In the following season he reached five times the points and twice the top ten in six sprint participations in the World Cup. In February 2011 he finished 30th in the sprint and ninth place in the team sprint at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo . In the following two years he mostly achieved positions outside of the points in the World Cup and ended his career after the 2012/13 season.
