Schwienbacher, who had become relay world champion with the Italian team at the Junior World Championships in 1995 in Gällivare, Sweden , made his debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in Brusson at the beginning of the 1995/96 season and finished 25th in the 15 km freestyle. In the further course of the season he won his first race in the Cross-Country Continental Cup in Campra . In the following years he mainly started in the Continental Cup. He got two more victories. At the beginning of the 1999/2000 season he achieved his first top ten placement in the World Cup with sixth place over 15 km freestyle in Sappada . In the further course of the season he came in the points ten times and thus achieved 30th place in the overall World Cup and 12th place in the Sprint World Cup. His best individual placement the following season was eighth in the Soldier Hollow sprint . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2001 in Lahti , he finished 34th over 15 km classic and 20th in the sprint. After two placements outside the points in Kuopio at the beginning of the 2001/02 season, he achieved three results in the top ten in the World Cup singles. At the team sprint in Nové Město , he and Fabio Maj won his first World Cup victory . At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , he came in 26th place over 15 km classic and fifth in the sprint. At the end of the season he finished 27th in the overall World Cup and tenth in the Sprint World Cup. The following season he was third in the team sprint in Asiago together with Renato Pasini and second with the relay in Davos and Nové Město . At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in the Fiemme Valley , he achieved eighth place in the skiathlon and sixth place in the sprint. In the 2003/04 season he came in five sprint races in the points. He won his first individual World Cup victory in Pragelato and reached 12th place in the Sprint World Cup at the end of the season. The following season he achieved eight places in the points, including four in the top ten. At the World Cup in Nové Město he was second in the sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2005 in Oberstdorf , he finished 33rd in the sprint and fourth in the team sprint. He finished the season in 27th place in the overall World Cup and in 18th place in the Sprint World Cup. The following year he was ninth in the team sprint and fifth in the sprint at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . His best individual result in the 2005/06 season was 13th place over 15 km freestyle in Nove Mesto. In the following years he mainly started in the cross-country alpine cup . His best result was fifth place in December 2008 in Alta Badia . At the Tour de Ski 2007/08 , he finished 39th. He ran his last World Cup race in February 2009 in Valdidentro , which he finished in 65th place in the sprint.
