Mikhail Petrovich Ivanov ( Russian Михаил Петрович Иванов; born November 20, 1977 in Ostrow , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian cross-country skier .

Life

Ivanov won gold with the Russian cross-country relay at the Junior World Championships in 1996 in Asiago, Italy . He then won two races in the Cross-Country World Cup : on March 4, 2000 in Lahti ( Finland ) the mass start over 30 km in the classic technique and a year later in Falun ( Sweden ) the race over 15 km classic.

In 2001 he won the bronze medal over 30 km classic at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti .

His greatest success is winning the gold medal over 50 km classic at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . Ivanov was only subsequently named Olympic champion after Johann Mühlegg , who started for Spain, had to surrender his gold medal after a positive doping test .

Ivanov's last result in the World Cup points was a 26th place in the pursuit race in Vernon ( Canada ) in the 2005/2006 season. Ivanov has not competed in the World Cup since January 2007.
