Leif Johan Rohlin (born February 26, 1968 in Västerås ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League from 1986 to 2003 .

Career

Leif Rohlin began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown at VIK Västerås HK , for whose professional team he made his second-rate Division 1 debut in the 1986/87 season . In the following game year, the defender and his team succeeded in promotion to the Elitserien , before he was selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 as the 33rd player by the Vancouver Canucks . Initially, however, he stayed with his Swedish club, for which he played in the Elitserien for seven years. In the summer of 1995, the Canucks ordered him to North America and Rohlin made his debut in the National Hockey League during the 1995/96 season . In his rookie year he reached 22 scorer points in a total of 61 games, including six goals.

After Rohlin was used in the 1996/97 season only 40 times in the NHL team of Canadians, he returned to Europe , where he offered a contract of HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss National League A accepted. With the Confederates he won the IIHF Continental Cup in 1998 and 1999 , where he was named best defender during the 1999 tournament. After four years in other European countries, the Olympic champion from 1994 switched to Djurgårdens IF from his Swedish homeland for the 2001/02 season , which he left again after the season. He ended his career with their league rivals from the Elitserien, Södertälje SK , following the 2002/03 season.

International

For Sweden Rohlin took part in the U20 Junior World Championship in 1988 , as well as the World Championships in 1995 and 2001 . He was also part of Sweden's squad for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey .
