Ambrì is a village in the Leventina district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . It belongs to the municipality of Quinto .
geography
The place name is probably derived from ombra "shadow", which is appropriate given the village location at the foot of the right slope of the Leventina . In winter, Ambrì is left without sun for several months.
The Ambrì-Piotta airport and the primary school of the municipality of Quinto and the secondary school (Scuola Media) for the municipalities of the upper Leventina, Airolo , Bedretto , Quinto, Prato (Leventina) and Dalpe are located in the village .
history
The two hamlets in 1227 were mentioned for the first time. Under the rule of the Canons of Milan, Ambrì, together with Bedretto , Airolo , Quinto and Prato (Leventina), formed a tax district, the rodaria de intus montem. Together with Prato, Quinto and Airolo it paid tithes to the provost church of Biasca . On October 28, 1682 a school chaplaincy was founded. Today Ambrì has a mixed secondary school.
