Alina Borioli

Alina Borioli (born November 23, 1887 in Ambrì Sopra ; † July 14, 1965 there ) was a Swiss writer. Her pseudonym was Abete .

Life

Alina Borioli was the daughter of Davide Borioli and his wife Marina, b. Togni. She was born in Ambrì in Leventina in 1887 .

In 1906 she worked as a primary school teacher at the elementary school in Lavorgo and from 1907 to 1914 at the main pedagogical institute in Russo . From 1914 to 1915 she interrupted her teaching. In Geneva she enrolled at the first institute for educational science founded in Europe, the Institut Rousseau , to study pedagogy . It was there that the first symptoms of her later blindness appeared. After she returned to the Leventina, she had to give up teaching because of the progressive impairment of sight.

Alina Borioli remained unmarried.

Writing

After going blind, she turned to writing. She collected fairy tales, legends, stories from the past and proverbs from her home region; to do this, she dealt with the folklore of the Leventine. Emilio Bontà said of her in 1936 that she “found a balance for the lost viewing privilege in the inner clarity and liveliness of memory”.

In 1926 she published La vecchia leventina . On the occasion of the first national Swiss exhibition for women’s work in 1928 she was involved in the preparation and publication of Donne Ticinesi . She wrote the chapters on the teacher Orsolina Pedrini and on the work of women in Leventina. In 1928 she wrote a libretto Vigilia di sagra set to music by Arnaldo Filipello (1887–1953) .

From the 1930s onwards she dealt with the dialectal poetry of Upper Ticino, with which she was able to express some characteristic aspects even better. In 1955 she won third prize in a literary competition organized by the magazine Il Cantonetto with her poem Ava Giuana .

In 1964 she published her dialect poem Ava Giuana in Vos det la faura , in which an old woman, rooted in her homeland, conjures up accidents in the mountains and tragedies of an archaic world in a dream-like vision that leaves only emptiness and loneliness.

Borioli wrote for numerous cantonal magazines and between 1955 and 1963 worked regularly under the pseudonym Abete for the weekly newspaper Cooperazione .
