Parish before the merger on January 1, 1995

Russo is a village in the municipality of Onsernone , Locarno district , in the Swiss canton of Ticino . It formed its own political municipality until December 31, 1994 and then merged with Comologno and Crana to form the municipality of Onsernone.

geography

The village lies at 801 m above sea level. M. in the middle of the Onsernone Valley , where the Valle di Vergeletto branches off northwards.

history

Russo was first mentioned as de Ruxi in 1231 and as Rusio in 1277 .

The parish was probably formed around 1656 after it was separated from Loco . The parishes of Comologno (1715), Vergeletto (1757) and Crana (1787) were added later. Up until the middle of the 20th century, agriculture and livestock were the main sources of income. After the number of residents had decreased steadily over decades, especially after the Second World War, it has increased slightly since the 1970s. The reason is the improved infrastructure (cantonal road).
