Onsernone is a municipality in the county onsernone , district of Locarno , the Swiss canton of Ticino .

geography

The municipality includes the Onsernone Valley and the Valle di Vergeletto.

Neighboring municipalities are Centovalli , Maggia and Terre di Pedemonte and the Italian municipalities of Craveggia (IT-VB) and Re (IT-VB).

history

Today's municipality Onsernone was created in two steps through the merger of previous municipalities. The idea of uniting all nine valley communities of Onsernone and Vergeletto in a single community was formulated as early as the 1970s. In 1995 there was a first merger in the upper part of the valley when the previous municipalities of Comologno , Crana and Russo merged under the name Onsernone . This municipality had 322 inhabitants in 2000. In a second step, the former municipalities of Gresso , Mosogno and Vergeletto as well as the municipality of Isorno , which was only formed in 2001 from the former municipalities of Auressio , Berzona and Loco , merged with Onsernone, which thus became the only political municipality in the valley.
