Centovalli (Comune delle Centovalli) is a municipality in the Melezza district , in the Locarno district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .
geography
The municipality of Centovalli comprises the central part of the valley of the same name , through which the Melezza flows. The community is located about 15 km northwest of Locarno . There are countless small villages in the municipality, which used to be partly independent municipalities. Among them Calezzo , Corcapolo , Verdasio , Rasa , Bordei , Palagnedra , Lionza , Costa TI , Borgnone and Camedo on the border with Italy.
The lowest point of the municipality is at the confluence of the Melezza with a side stream from the Val Comora at about 247 meters above sea level. The highest point in the municipality is the Gridone at 2188 meters above sea level. The summit is also the highest point in the municipality of Brissago . The border with Italy runs here.
The current districts of the municipality are: Bordei, Borgnone, Calezzo, Camedo, Corcapolo con Salmina, Costa s / Borgnone, Costa s / Intragna, Cremaso, Cresto, Golino, Intragna, Lionza, Monadello, Moneto, Palagnedra, Pila, Rasa, Verdasio con Bolle e Sassalto and Vosa.
history
The municipality of Centovalli, whose name appears in documents at the end of the 13th century, includes the four villages Camedo, Borgnone, Lionza and Costa towards Solivo and Rasa, Bordei, Palagnedra and Moneto towards Ovigo; each village in turn represented a terra, an area that enjoyed a certain autonomy from the community and also had its own possessions, was dissolved in 1838 (Borgnone, Palagnedra and Rasa).
Community merger
It was re-formed through a merger approved on October 25, 2009 from the previously independent municipalities of Borgnone , Intragna and Palagnedra .
