Until April 9, 2016, Gresso was a political municipality in the Onsernone district in the Locarno district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . It contains the Monte Maiensäss at 1340 to 1410  m above sea level. M. .

geography

Gresso is 999 m above sea level. M. at the southwest foot of the Pizzo Pelose; 23.5 km northwest of Locarno train station in the Valle di Vergeletto , a northern side valley of the Onsernone valley and consists of the village of Gresso and the exclave "Alla Ca '" west of the village.

history

First mentioned in 1266 as Agressio . In 1898 graves from the 1st – 2nd centuries were found there. Century AD with clay dishes and coins from Roman times . The village belonged to the vicinia Onsernone and earlier to the parish Russo TI and the municipality Vergeletto. The community was formed in 1882 when it split off from Vergeletto .

Community merger

On April 10, 2016, Gresso merged with the former municipalities of Isorno , Vergeletto and Mosogno to form the municipality of Onsernone .
