Raffaele Cavadini

Raffaele Cavadini (* 12. July 1954 in Mendrisio ) is one of the " Ticino School -influenced" Swiss architect , who in Muralto works, and also as a university lecturer for architecture worked.

Training and work

Cavadini studied architecture at the ETH Zurich in 1973 and 1974 and then went to Venice , where he graduated in 1980. He then worked for a short time with Aurelio Galfetti . From 1982 to 1985 he worked in Luigi Snozzi's office, and in 1985 he finally opened his own office in Locarno . In 1981 Cavadini became an assistant at Ivano Gianola's chair in Geneva, and a year later he moved to the ETH Zurich, where he worked for a year as an assistant to E. Studer. In 1986 Cavadini was visiting professor at the SCI – Arc of the University of Los Angeles , from 1987 to 1988 visiting professor at the Polytechnic in Lausanne. In 1995 and 1996 he led two international courses in Monte Carasso and Brig-Glis. From 2002 to 2007 he was Professor of Design at the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio . In 2008 he was visiting professor at the Technical University of Munich . Cavadini was also a member of the Ticino Monument Protection Commission from 1990 to 2001, and from 1997 to 2002 a member of the Swiss Monument Protection Commission. Cavadini has been a member of the Ticino diocesan commission since 2007.

Cavadini prefers to work with raw concrete and granite. His work is characterized by a minimalist and at the same time technically very precise style, with the sparse architectural language referring to local architecture.

  • 1996: The best 96 , awarded by the DRS editors 10vor10 and Hochparterre , first prize for the best architecture, his work in Iragna was awarded.
  • 1997: Luoghi e culture della pietra , international price for stone architecture Verona, awarded for his work in Iragna.
  • 1999: International Architecture Prize for Building in the Sesto Alps, the award went to the Ethnographic Museum in Olivone
  • 2003: Prize of the SIA Ticino, awarded to the Ethnographic Museum in Olivone
