Sigirino had until 20 November 2010, a municipality in the county tavern , district Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .
geography
The village is located at 473 m above sea level. M. at the foot of Monte Tamaro , at the entrance to Val Cusello, whose springs supply the city of Lugano with excellent water, three kilometers northwest of the Taverne station on the Bellinzona-Lugano-Chiasso line of the Gotthard Railway .
history
The community first appears in a document as Sezelino in 1335. The church of Sant'Andrea is mentioned as early as 1296 and was rebuilt in the 16th century.
Community merger
On November 25, 2007, the merger of the seven municipalities in the Vedeggio Valley was approved by the voters of five municipalities: Bironico , Camignolo , Medeglia , Rivera and Sigirino should therefore have merged to form the municipality of Monteceneri . Isone and Mezzovico-Vira rejected the merger. As a result, the State Council refrained from asking the Grand Council a compulsory merger of the two negative municipalities. Monteceneri was therefore only formed from the five consenting municipalities.
