Manno is a municipality in the Taverne district , in the Lugano district in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

The village is 342 m above sea level. M. on the right bank of the river Vedeggio . Due to its location on Autobahn 2, Manno has become a service suburb of the city of Lugano in recent decades.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1184 under the then name Manno . The Bishop of Como in 1298 had some possessions here. Manno was the seat of the ETH data center from 1991 to 2012 and is one of the seats of the University of Applied Sciences of Italian Switzerland .
