Camignolo (1964)

Until November 20, 2010, Camignolo was a political municipality in the Taverne district , in the Lugano district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

Village by the bridge over the Vedeggio , at the exit of the Valle d'Isone. The Camignolos area extends over the left side of the valley up to Gola di Lago and also includes the Alp Santa Maria di Lago.

history

In 1205 the village received forests from Heinrich Rusca with the obligation to maintain the St. Martin's Church in Bironico and the St. Leonhard's Church in Robasacco ; this obligation ceased in 1809. The Como Cathedral here owned goods. The Rusca built the Sant'Ambrogio Castle there at the beginning of the 15th century, presumably on the site of an earlier building; it belonged to the fortifications of Vedeggio and was destroyed by the confederates around 1518 . In the first half of the 15th century, Camignolo was a parish and provided the Duke of Milan with 12 soldiers. In 1484 it was hit by the plague.

On November 25, 2007, the merger of the seven municipalities in the Vedeggio Valley was approved by the voters of five municipalities: Bironico, Camignolo, Medeglia, Rivera and Sigirino should therefore have merged to form the municipality of Monteceneri . Isone and Mezzovico-Vira rejected the merger. As a result, the State Council refrained from asking the Grand Council a compulsory merger of the two negative municipalities. The municipality of Monteceneri was therefore only formed from the five consenting municipalities.

It merged on November 21, 2010 with the municipalities of Bironico , Medeglia , Rivera and Sigirino to form the new municipality of Monteceneri .

Personalities

  • Giovanni Battista Belli-Bernasconi (* 1770 in Camignolo, † November 17, 1827 in Saint Petersburg ), architect in Russia . Active in Saint Petersburg since 1801, in 1809 he submitted a design for the redesign of St. Isaac's Cathedral , the construction of which had already been started in 1760 by Antonio Rinaldi (architect) and was later continued by Vincenzo Brenna . However, the order went to the French architect Auguste de Montferrand . Inside there are frescoes by Fedele Baroffio-Bruni from Mendrisio . Nevertheless, Giovanni received great recognition for this and other projects and was made a member of the Academy in 1814. Apparently he had many commissions and also worked with architects such as Giacomo Quarenghi and Tommaso Adamini the Elder from Agra TI .
