Mezzovico-Vira is a municipality in the county tavern , district Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

Aerial photo (1946)

The community lies at 460 m above sea level. M. on the right bank of the Vedeggio river , about 10 kilometers north of Lugano . Neighboring communities are Capriasca and Monteceneri .

history

The place was already settled in pre-Roman times; the two districts were first mentioned in 1335 as Medio Vico and Vira .

On November 25, 2007, the merger of the seven municipalities in the Vedeggio Valley was approved by the voters of five municipalities: Bironico , Camignolo , Medeglia , Rivera and Sigirino should therefore have merged to form the municipality of Monteceneri . Isone and Mezzovico-Vira rejected the merger. As a result, the State Council refrained from asking the Grand Council a compulsory merger of the two negative municipalities. Mezzovico-Vira thus retains its independence, is almost completely enclosed by Monteceneri.
