Aranno is a municipality in the Breno district , in the Lugano district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .
geography
The village is 731 m above sea level. M. on the left bank of the Magliasina river , 7 km west of Lugano , at the foot of the Montaccio. It is located in the Magliasina (valley) in the Malcantone . In the past, vines and cereals were cultivated intensively in the almost completely forested community. Neighboring communities are Alto Malcantone , Miglieglia , Novaggio , Curio , Bioggio and Cademario .
history
The village was first mentioned in 1335 as Arano . In 1842 a tombstone with a North Etruscan inscription was discovered there, which unfortunately was broken into four pieces by the workers. A copy of it is now in the historical museum of Lugano. According to tradition, there was a Roman castle in Aranno, on the ruins of which, as Luigi Lavizzari claims, the parish church of San Vittore was built.
