Miglieglia is a municipality in the Breno district in the Malcantone region in the Lugano district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland and is located at the foot of Monte Lema .

geography

The village of Miglieglia, surrounded by forest, is 717  m above sea level. M. above the Magliasina valley on the southeast slope of Monte Lemas , which is 1619  m above sea level. M. forms the highest elevation in the community. The deepest point is in the extreme southeast of the municipality at 504  m above sea level. M. at the confluence of the Riale di Monte Pellegrino in the Magliasina.

Neighboring municipalities are Alto Malcantone , Aranno and Novaggio .

history

Presumably already settled in Roman times, the village is first mentioned in 1214 as Mullielia . The village of Tortoglio (1335 Tortolio ) was wiped out by the plague in the 16th century . In 1818 a gold coin from Emperor Nero and other items from Roman times were found there . In the first half of the 15th century, the community was to provide the Duke of Milan with 12 soldiers and war material.

  • Monte Lema summit cross: On the initiative of the priest Ferdinando Andina of the Catholic Committee Unione Popolare Cattolica Malcantonese , a summit cross was erected on the mountain to mark the 1900th anniversary of Christ's resurrection. Since then, the cross has been the symbol of Malcantone, a sign of faith and belonging to this region. In 2000 the original cross was replaced by a new construction made of stainless steel of the same size and shape.
