The mountain timeless ( Colchicum montanum L .; Syn .: Merendera montana Lange ; Merendera pyrenaica (Pourret) P. Fourn. , Merendera bulbocodium Ramond ) is a species of the timeless genus ( Colchicum ) in the timeless family (Colchicaceae) .

features

The mountain timeless is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 3 to 7 centimeters. It forms tubers as permanent organs. The leaves measure 7 to 22 × 0.3 to 1 centimeters; they are hardly developed at the time of flowering. The flowers are 4 to 8 centimeters in diameter and pink-purple with a white center. The tepal blades measure 25 to 65 × 3 to 11 millimeters. The dust bags are attached to the stamen at the base and are not easily movable.

The flowering period extends from (July) August to October.

Occurrence

The mountain timeless occurs in Portugal , Spain and in southwest France in the Pyrenees . It thrives on dry, stony mountain slopes, ericaceous and gorse heaths and subalpine meadows at altitudes of 900 to 2500 meters.

The mountain timeless is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens.
