Jakub "Jake" Voráček (born August 15, 1989 in Slaný , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League since June 2011 . The right winger previously spent three years with the Columbus Blue Jackets , who had selected him in seventh position in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft . With the Czech national team he won the gold medal at the 2010 World Cup .
Career
Jakub Voráček began his career in the junior teams of HC Kladno , which is known for its good youth work and has already produced NHL leaders such as Jaromír Jágr , Patrik Eliáš and Tomáš Kaberle . At the age of 15 he was already playing in Kladno's U18 team and outperformed teammates and opponents who were up to three years older. In the 2004/05 season Voráček reached more than one template per game and was appointed to the U16 national team. A short time later, he was appointed to the U17 team and was the youngest participant in the U17 “Four Nations” tournament. In the following season he was used in the U20 team of HC Kladno and scored 21 goals and 38 assists in 46 games in the U20 extra league. He also made his debut for the men's team of HC Kladno in the Czech extra league .
In the summer of 2006, Voráček was first selected by the Halifax Mooseheads in the CHL Import Draft . A short time later, he decided to move to North America and has since played very successfully in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . He was his team's top scorer in both the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons and won several league personal awards. In 2007 he also took part in the CHL Top Prospects Game, in which he scored a goal. Because of these achievements and his earlier appearances at international tournaments, he was selected ( drafted ) in the first round during the NHL Entry Draft 2007 by the Columbus Blue Jackets from the NHL in seventh place .
In the summer of 2008, Voráček made the jump into the NHL roster of the Blue Jackets and scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game on October 10, 2008. On June 23, 2011 Voráček was transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers together with a first and third round suffrage in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , the Blue Jackets received Jeff Carter in return .
Due to the NHL lockout, Voráček played between late September and December 2012 for HC Lev Prague in the Continental Hockey League . In the summer of 2015, the Czech signed a new eight-year contract in Philadelphia, which should earn him an average annual salary of $ 8.25 million.
International
Jakub Voráček has participated in four international title fights in the junior division: For the U18 and U20 national team , he took part in the U18 World Cup in 2006 and 2007 , as well as the U20 World Cup in 2007 and 2008 .
In 2010 Voráček made his debut in the men's national team and took part in the Euro Hockey Tour 2009/10 . He was also appointed to the squad for the 2010 World Cup , where he scored two assists in nine games and won the gold medal. He also took part in the 2014 Winter Olympics with the Czech Republic and led his country as captain at the 2015 World Cup . He was also in the Czech squad for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
