Samuel Morin (born July 12, 1995 in Lac-Beauport , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League since 2013 and for their farm team , the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , in the American Hockey League is used in the position of the defender .

Career

Samuel Morin began his career with the Commandeurs de Lévis in the province of Québec . In the 2010/11 season he recorded twelve assists and 40 penalty minutes in 36 games. In three play-off games he scored an assist. He also represented his home province at the Canada Games 2011. At the end of the season he was selected in seventh place in the entry draft of the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec by the Rimouski Océanic .

The following season, the defender moved to the Océanic in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League and played 62 games in which he scored eight assists. In ten play-off games, the rest of which Morin missed due to an injury, he prepared a goal. In his first season with the Rimouski Océanic, he was elected to the LHJMQ All-Rookie Team.

In the 2012/13 season , Morin was used in 46 games, scored four goals and prepared twelve more. He missed the start of the season due to an upper body injury. In the 2013 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in eleventh place. In his third season in Rimouski he came in 54 missions to 31 scorer points.

In 2015 he won the Coupe du Président with the Océanic de Rimouski before he switched to the Philadelphia Flyers organization at the beginning of the 2015/16 season. After two full seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Flyers' farm team , the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , Morin made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in April 2017 . After missing large parts of the 2017/18 season due to a ruptured cruciate ligament , he signed a new three-year contract in Philadelphia in June 2018.

International

Morin represented his home country at the 2013 U18 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship . There he won the gold medal with the Canadian team. In the same year he took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 with the Province of Québec .

In 2015 he took part in the U20 World Cup in his own country and won the gold medal there.
