Georg Boguslav von Koethen

Georg Boguslav von Koethen (born October 6, 1722 in Krampe ; † October 19, 1808 ) was a Prussian major general and chief of infantry regiment No. 48 .

Life

origin

Georg Boguslav was the son of Jürgen Ernst von Koethen (* June 17, 1686; † November 15, 1760 in Libbehne) and his wife Ilse Katharina, born von Wedel (* 1702; † December 7, 1766 in Libbehne). His father was the heir to Krampe and Libbehne.

Military career

In 1738 he became a private corporal in the "von der Goltz" No. 5 infantry regiment . On June 1, 1740 Koethen was transferred to the newly established infantry regiment "Margrave Heinrich" No. 42 . There he became an ensign on June 22, 1743 and then took part in the Second Silesian War . On May 8, 1746 he was second lieutenant and on September 6, 1755 prime lieutenant . During the Seven Years' War he fought near Prague and Kolin . In Kolin he was left dead on the battlefield until looters noticed that he was still alive. He recovered, became a staff captain on May 23, 1759, and on July 7, 1760, captain and company commander .

On October 1, 1775 he was major and on December 1, 1776 battalion commander. As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On October 4, 1784 he became lieutenant colonel and on March 23, 1786 commander of the infantry regiment "Margrave Heinrich" No. 42. On May 27, 1787 he became a colonel and was awarded the order Pour le on the occasion of the review on September 1, 1788 in Neisse Mérite excellent. On May 20, 1792 he was promoted to major general with a patent dated May 28, 1792. Shortly thereafter, on July 4, 1792, he was appointed chief of the "von Schliffen" No. 48 infantry regiment . Koethen then went into the First Coalition War , but on August 14, 1797 he received his resignation with a pension of 1200 thalers . With the lost war of 1806, his pension was cut in half. He died on October 19, 1808.

The general was of very short stature, but was considered an able drill master.

Koethen married Justine Juliane von Sanitz (* 1731 in Braunsfelde; † October 12, 1790 in Neisse) from the Braunsfelde house on February 24, 1763 . Her parents were Ludwig von Sanitz and Barbara Hedwig von Koethen from the Libbehnen family.
