geography
Lac Beauport is located in the middle of the wooded foothills of the Laurentine Mountains , between the river valleys of the Rivière Saint-Charles in the west and the Rivière Montmorency in the east. Most of the settlement is located in the southwest corner of the municipality, west of the lake of the same name, Lac Beauport. This is almost two kilometers long and half a kilometer wide. There are also various other lakes such as Lac Bonnet, Lac Morin, Lac Neigette or Lac Tourbillon.
Neighboring communities are Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury in the north, Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval in the east and Québec in the south.
history
Settlement began around 1820 with forest clearing to make way for the Waterloo Settlement . The initially predominantly English-speaking settlers, who mainly operated in agriculture, recalled the battle of Waterloo with the place name . In 1853 the community of Saint-Dunstan-du-Lac-Beauport was founded, named after the English saint Dunstan of Canterbury and the Seigneurie Beauport. Colloquially, the place name Lac-Beauport was used almost exclusively, which led to the official renaming in 1989. The development of tourism began in the 1930s at the suggestion of winter sports pioneer Herman Smith-Johannsen . Lac-Beauport has been part of the Communauté métropolitaine de Québec association since 2002 .
