Manon Rhéaume (born February 24, 1972 in Lac-Beauport , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper . She is considered one of the best female goalkeepers in the world.

Career

On August 8, 1992, she was the first woman to play in a National Hockey League preparation game . She played for the newly formed Tampa Bay Lightning team against the St. Louis Blues . Before that, she was also the first woman to play a game for the Draveurs de Trois-Rivières in the highest Canadian junior league, Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . However, her breakthrough in all men's leagues was denied, even in the so-called minor leagues she was only rarely used.

Together with the Canadian national team , she won the silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano . At the World Championships in 1992 and 1994 , she was world champion with Canada.

Her brother Pascal Rhéaume was a regular in the NHL and won in 2003 with the New Jersey Devils to the Stanley Cup .

Rhéaume is married and has one son.
