Carter Hart (born August 13, 1998 in Sherwood Park , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League since October 2016 and for their farm team, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , in American Hockey League is used.
Career
youth
Carter Hart was born in Sherwood Park and played there in his youth for the Sherwood Park Flyers and the Sherwood Park Squires . Towards the end of the 2013/14 season he made his debut for the Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League (WHL), the highest-ranking junior league in the region, and established himself in their line-up from the following year. As a rookie , he acted as a backup for Austin Lotz before becoming the goalkeeper of the Silvertips from the 2015/16 season. In this role, Hart developed into one of the outstanding goalkeeper talents in North America over the next three years and received numerous awards. Between 2016 and 2018 he received the Del Wilson Trophy as the best goalkeeper in the WHL three times in a row , which no other player had achieved before, while he was the first in the history of the Canadian Hockey League to be honored twice as CHL Goaltender of the Year . He was also considered three times in a row in the WHL West First All-Star Team and was awarded the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the best player in the league in 2018 .
Statistically, the 2017/18 season was his best, when the Canadian achieved a catch rate of 94.7% and an average goal against goals of 1.60, while he reached the final of the playoffs with the Silvertips and failed there at the Swift Current Broncos . In total, he recorded 26 shutouts in the WHL during his junior career, which he set the record for Tyson Sexsmith .
NHL
In the 2016 NHL Entry Draft , Hart was selected as the first goalkeeper of the Entry Draft in 48th position by the Philadelphia Flyers , having previously participated in the CHL Top Prospects Game . The Flyers provided him with an entry-level contract in October 2016 and finally brought him into their organization for the 2018/19 season. For the time being, as expected, he guarded the goal of their farm team , the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , in the American Hockey League (AHL) before he was called into the Flyers' squad for the first time in December 2018 and a little later in a 3-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL). The following January he recorded six wins from nine missions in the Flyers' jersey, an average of 2.33 conceded goals and a catch rate of 93.1%, making him the NHL rookie of the month .
International
On an international level, Hart guarded his goal for his home country for the first time at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2015 , where he won the gold medal with the team, but remained at U18 level without further appearances. He then represented the U20 national team at the U20 World Championships in 2017 and 2018 , where he won a silver and a gold medal with Team Canada . While in the first year he still shared the playing time with Connor Ingram and the team failed in the final at the United States , he led Canada to the world championship title the following year as the undisputed regular goalkeeper.
Hart made his debut for the senior national team at the 2019 World Cup and won the silver medal there with the team.
