The 2015/16 WHL season was the 50th season of the Western Hockey League . The regular season began on September 24, 2015 and ended on March 20, 2016, with the Victoria Royals winning their first Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy . On March 25, 2016, the playoffs for the Ed Chynoweth Cup began , which the Brandon Wheat Kings won for the third time in their history on May 13, 2016.
