Noah Juulsen (born April 2, 1997 in Surrey , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League (NHL) since July 2015 and also for their farm team , the Rocket de Laval , in the American Hockey League (AHL) plays on the position of defender .
Career
Juulsen was born in Surrey, but moved with his family to Abbotsford as a child , where he played for the Abbotsford Hawks and the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in his youth . He was then in the WHL Bantam Draft 2012 in the fourth round at the 70th position from the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL) drafted . Due to his good performance in the WHL season 2014/15 , he was ranked 22nd in the final 2015 ranking of the NHL Central Scouting Service and selected for participation in the 2015 CHL Top Prospects Game . In the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2015 , Juulsen was considered in the first round in 26th position by the Canadiens de Montréal and was awarded an Entry Level Contract in July 2015 .
In February 2017, Juulsen was appointed to the Canadiens de Montréal squad and played his first game in the NHL alongside Karl Alzner on February 22, 2018 in the Canadiens' 3-1 home win against the New York Rangers . In early March 2018, he scored his first goal in the NHL in a 6-3 away win over the New York Islanders .
International
Juulsen and Team Canada Pacific won the silver medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in January 2014 and the silver medal at the U20 World Cup with the U20 national team of Canada .
