Kale Clague (born June 5, 1998 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . He has been under contract with the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League since March 2017 and has been working for their farm team , the Ontario Reign , in the American Hockey League (AHL) since October 2018 .
Career
Kale Clague grew up in Lloydminster in the province of Alberta and played in the youth with the Lloydminster Heat and the Lloydminster Bobcats in the Alberta Midget Hockey League . In the Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 2013, the defender was selected in the first round as the sixth player by the Brandon Wheat Kings . After he had finished the 2013/14 season with the Lloydminster Bobcats, Clague came twice for the Wheat Kings towards the end of the WHL season . From the 2015/16 season he was promoted to a regular with the Brandon Wheat Kings, played 71 games and scored 43 points scorer . At the end of the season, the Wheat Kings secured the Ed Chynoweth Cup and thus the championship in the Western Hockey League. He also took part in the CHL Top Prospects Game .
In the 2016 NHL Entry Draft , Kale Clague was selected in 51st position by the Los Angeles Kings , where he signed a three-year entry contract on March 7, 2017 . During the 2016/17 season he played 48 games for the Brandon Wheat Kings, in which he scored 40 points and was then appointed to the WHL East First All-Star Team . The defender spent half of the following season with the Brandon Wheat Kings before he was sent to the Moose Jaw Warriors on January 10, 2018 . With these he won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as the best point team of the season and he was awarded the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the best defender of the WHL at the end of the season . In addition, it was once again taken into account in the All-Star Team of the Eastern Conference. At the beginning of the 2018/19 NHL season, Clague was in the preliminary roster of the Los Angeles Kings, but was sent from there on October 1, 2018 to the Ontario Reign , the farm team of the Kings from the American Hockey League (AHL).
Clague finally made his debut for the Kings in the National Hockey League (NHL) in December 2019.
International
In 2014, Kale Clague competed for Team Canada Black in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in November . In 2015 he won the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament with the Canadian national team with a final victory over the team from Sweden. In 2017 the defender was appointed to the national team for the U20 World Junior Championship , where he won the silver medal with the team. The following year he became world champion with the Canadian U20 national team .
