Brayden Point (born March 13, 1996 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has played for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League on the position of the center since October 2016 .
Career
Point played for numerous clubs around his native Calgary until 2012 , before moving to the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League at the end of the 2011/12 season. The center forward played there for four years and was elected to the East First All-Star Team of the league at the end of the 2014/15 and 2015/16 season . In the 2014 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the third round in 79th position by the Tampa Bay Lightning from the National Hockey League , who signed him in March 2015. Following the signing of the contract, Point completed his first assignments in the professional field with the Syracuse Crunch from the American Hockey League , which acted as the Lightning's farm team . For the 2015/16 season he returned to Moose Jaw.
By performing well in the pre-season training camp, the attacker earned a place in the Lightning squad at the beginning of the 2016/17 season and finally celebrated his NHL competitive game debut on October 13, 2016. In the course of the season, Point came to 40 scorer points in 68 games and thus placed in the top 10 of the rookie scorer list. He significantly increased this performance in the following season 2017/18 to 66 points, making him the third-best scorer on his team. In the 2018/19 season, Point continued this trend, with 92 points from 79 games, a point average of well over 1.0 per game. As a result, the Canadian signed a new three-year contract in Tampa in September 2019 that should earn him an average annual salary of $ 6.75 million.
International
Point represented his home country at numerous international tournaments. He won the gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2015 , the silver medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2013 and the bronze medal at the U18 Junior World Championship in 2014 . He was also part of the squad at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2016 .
At the 2017 World Cup , Point made his debut in the Canadian senior team and won the silver medal there with the team.
