Blake Coleman (born November 28, 1991 in Plano , Texas ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League since February 2020 . Previously, the center spent five years in the New Jersey Devils organization .
Career
Blake Coleman played in his youth for the Tri-City Storm and the Indiana Ice in the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest-ranking junior league in the USA. His breakthrough came in the 2010/11 season wearing the Ice jersey , when he led the entire league in assists (58), points (92) and in the plus / minus statistics (+52). As a result, the attacker was named Player of the Year and elected to the USHL First All-Star Team , before he was also considered in the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2011 in 75th position by the New Jersey Devils . Autumn 2011. Coleman began studying business management (business management) at Miami University in Ohio and ran for their hockey team, which in the next four years Miami Redhawks , in the National Collegiate Athletic Association on (NCAA). There the center established itself as a regular scorer and scored 37 points from 37 games in the 2014/15 season, with an average of 1.0.
Coleman then signed an entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils in July 2015 . They used him for the time being with their farm team , the Albany Devils , in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he only played 14 games in the 2015/16 season due to a shoulder injury. After half a season of regular AHL appearances, he finally made his debut for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League (NHL) in January 2017 , which was followed by 22 more games by the end of the season. He finished the AHL game year with 39 points in 52 games for the Albany Devils. With the start of the 2017/18 season, Coleman established himself in New Jersey's NHL line-up and has been there regularly since then.
After five years in New Jersey, Coleman was transferred to the Tampa Bay Lightning in February 2020 . In return, the Devils received Nolan Foote and a first-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2020 . The latter is automatically postponed by a year if the Vancouver Canucks , who originally owned the right to vote, should miss the playoffs in the 2019/20 season.
International
At the 2018 World Cup , Coleman took part in an international tournament for the first time and won the bronze medal with the US national team .
