Zachary "Zach" Bogosian (born July 15, 1990 in Massena , New York ) is an American ice hockey player of Armenian descent who has been under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League since February 2020 and for this on the position of Defender plays.
Career
Zach Bogosian began his career in 2005 with his high school team, the Cushing Academy Penguins, where his style of play attracted attention and was selected in the first round of the OHL Priority Selection by the Peterborough Petes . At the Petes he started a good season and was with seven goals and 26 assists after Kyle Raftis the team's best defender, which, however, missed the playoffs .
In the fall of 2007, before his second season, Bogosian was named one of the alternative captains of the Petes and he lived up to this leadership role. He led his teammates as the team's best scorer with 61 points in 60 games and was the second best assists among the league's defenders. The team was also able to move into the playoffs, but they were eliminated in the first round.
Due to his good performance, Zach Bogosian was counted among the most promising talents of his year and was finally selected in the first round in the third position of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers . Just a few months later at the Thrashers' training camp, he got a regular place in the NHL squad. After the first eight games of the season, however, he broke his leg and fell out for a long time.
In February 2015, the Winnipeg Jets together with Evander Kane and the rights to young goalkeeper Jason Kasdorf gave him to the Buffalo Sabers and in return received Tyler Myers , Drew Stafford , the two young players Brendan Lemieux and Joel Armia and a first-round right to vote for the NHL entry Draft 2015 . At that time Buffalo had three voting rights for the first round of drafts , with the Jets receiving the lowest voting rights, which depends on the performance of the current season of the St. Louis Blues and the New York Islanders .
After five years in the organization of the Sabers, Bogosian lost his regular place in the NHL line-up in the 2019/20 season, so that an early termination of his contract was agreed in February 2020. A few days later, the Tampa Bay Lightning took him under contract until the end of the season.
International
Bogosian made his debut for the US national team at the 2009 World Cup and finished fourth with the team.
