Evander Frank Kane (born August 2, 1991 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League since February 2018 and plays for them in the position of left winger .
Career
Evander Kane began his career in the Western Hockey League , one of Canada's top three junior leagues, with the Vancouver Giants . With these he won the Memorial Cup in 2007 , where he was used in two tournament games. In the following two years he played for the Giants in the WHL and was able to increase his point yield enormously - in the 2008/09 season he scored 96 points in 61 games in the preliminary round , another 15 in the play-offs. Due to the performances shown, the Atlanta Thrashers from the National Hockey League selected him during the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the first round in fourth place.
After the NHL Entry Draft in July 2009, the striker received his first professional contract with the Thrashers and also made it into the franchise's NHL roster . Kane made his debut in the NHL on October 3, 2009 and also scored his first assist. His first NHL goal followed five days later. Kane spent two seasons with the Thrashers before the franchise left for Winnipeg , Canada , before the 2011/12 season. There he played from then on and for the following three and a half years for the Winnipeg Jets . This was only interrupted by a brief interlude at HK Dinamo Minsk in the Continental Hockey League , where he spent the lockout at the beginning of the 2012/13 NHL season .
In February 2015, the Winnipeg Jets together with Zach Bogosian and the rights to young goalkeeper Jason Kasdorf gave him to the Buffalo Sabers and in return received Tyler Myers , Drew Stafford , the two young players Brendan Lemieux and Joel Armia and a first-round right to vote for the NHL entry Draft 2015 . At this point, Buffalo had three voting rights for the first round of drafts , with the Jets receiving the lowest voting rights. Following the move, Kane underwent shoulder surgery and was out the rest of the season. In the 2015/16 season , his first complete in the Sabers jersey, the attacker scored 35 points in 65 games. Still, the winger never really felt at home in Buffalo.
When his contract expired at the end of the 2017/18 season, Kane was handed over to the San Jose Sharks by the trade deadline in February 2018 . In return, the Sabers received Daniel O'Regan , a conditional right to vote in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft 2019 and a conditional right to vote in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft 2020 . The first round should be converted into a second round suffrage, unless Kane signs a new contract in San Jose by July 2018. However, this subsequently did not occur, as both parties agreed on a new seven-year contract in May 2018, which should bring Kane an average annual salary of seven million US dollars.
International
Evander Kane took part with the Canadian national team in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2008 and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2008 , where he reached eleven scorer points in a total of ten games. At the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament he secured the gold medal with the U18 selection. In the same year he was part of the extended squad of the U20 national team, but was initially not planned for the U20 Junior World Championship in 2009 . Due to an injury to Dana Tyrell , Kane was nominated and helped his team with six points in six tournament games to the fifth U20 world title in a row.
With the Canadian senior selection , Kane took part in the 2010 , 2011 and 2012 World Championships . He couldn't win a medal.
