Dalton Prout (born March 13, 1990 in Kingsville , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team , the San Jose Barracuda , in American Hockey League is used.

Career

youth

Dalton Prout was born in Kingsville and began playing ice hockey at the age of seven. In his youth he played for the Windsor Junior Spitfires before the Sarnia Sting selected him in the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 21st position. With the start of the 2006/07 season, the defender ran for the Sting, but stayed with the team for just over a year, as he was given in December 2007 in a multi-player and draft options comprehensive swap to the Barrie Colts . In the 2009/10 season he was promoted to assistant captain of the Colts and also had a personal best of 21 scorer points in 63 games. He was then selected in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in 154th position by the Columbus Blue Jackets . However, Prout initially returned to the OHL for another year, which he spent with the Colts and, after another change, with the Saginaw Spirit .

Columbus Blue Jackets

After the 2010/11 season, Prout signed an entry contract with the Blue Jackets and was initially used with their farm team , the Springfield Falcons , in the American Hockey League (AHL). Towards the end of the season, the Canadian made his debut with the Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League (NHL) and came on five appearances as a result. These five were followed by a further 28 games in the 2012/13 season, with Prout having a plus / minus statistic of +15, so that his team led and at the same time took third place of all rookies in the NHL.

In the following years, his playing time in the NHL increased continuously until he was no longer used in the AHL or exclusively in the NHL in the 2014/15 season. In March 2016, the defender extended his contract in Columbus for a further two years until the end of the 2017/18 season.

New Jersey and Calgary

After almost five and a half years and over 200 NHL appearances in Columbus, the Blue Jackets gave him to the New Jersey Devils for the trade deadline on March 1, 2017 and received Kyle Quincey in return . There, the defender lost his regular place in the NHL line-up at the beginning of the 2017/18 season and was subsequently given up in December 2017 in exchange for Eddie Läck to the Calgary Flames . There he was again used exclusively in the AHL at the Stockton Heat until the end of the season . He then moved to the San Jose Sharks as a free agent in July 2019 .
