Ondřej Palát (born March 28, 1991 in Frýdek-Místek ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning from the National Hockey League (NHL) since October 2011 .
Career
Junior Championships in the Czech Republic (2005-2009)
Ondřej Palát comes from the junior division of HC Frýdek-Místek , for whose U18 team he was active in the second division of the U18 game from 12005. In addition, he received parallel assignments in the U18 team of HC Vitkovice , which belonged to the U18 extra league, the top division of the age group. In 2006 he won the Czech U18 championship with this team. During the 2006/07 season he gained his first experience in the U20 team of HC Vitkovice before he was a permanent member of the U20 squad from 2007. In 2009 he won the U20 championship in the Czech Republic with this.
Moved to North America (since 2009)
After this success, he decided to move to North America and played for the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . During the NHL Entry Draft 2011 he was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in a total of 208th place and equipped by these in October 2011 with an NHL entry contract for a term of three years and used with the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League. At the end of the 2011/12 season he won the Calder Cup with the Admirals . During the 2012/13 season shortened by the lockout , he made his debut for the Lightning in the National Hockey League in early March 2013. In total, he came to 14 NHL games and otherwise played for the new farm team of the Lightning, the Syracuse Crunch .
Since the beginning of the 2013/14 season, like Radko Gudas, he has been part of Tampa Bay's regular squad.
International
Ondřej Palát played for the Czech Republic in the following tournaments: Ice Hockey World Championship for U18 Juniors in 2008 , Ice Hockey World Championship for U18 Juniors in 2009 and Ice Hockey World Championship for U20 Juniors in 2011 .
In January 2014, he and Radko Gudas surprisingly won the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi , although he had not previously played a game for the Czech men's national team . He also represented his home country at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
