Yanni Gourde (born December 15, 1991 in Saint-Narcisse , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning from the National Hockey League since March 2014 and plays for them on the position of the center .
Career
Gourde played during his junior years between 2009 and 2012 with the Tigres de Victoriaville in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League . After a solid year as a rookie , he was a major force in the squad from the start of the 2010/11 season and was the team's third-best scorer. In his final year in the QMJHL he was top scorer of the league with 124 points, but could not lead his team beyond the first play-off round. Nevertheless, he was honored - in addition to the Trophée Jean Béliveau for the top scorer - with the Trophée Michel Brière as the most valuable player . He was also elected to the League's First All-Star Team.
Since the striker was not included in the NHL Entry Draft , he was offered an amateur trial contract with the Worcester Sharks from the American Hockey League after the Tigres were eliminated from the play-offs , and he practiced a one-year contract with the Sharks for the season 2011/12 worked out. With only 14 scorer points in 54 missions, the season was disappointing, and Gourde found himself in the ECHL with the San Francisco Bulls . After the end of the season, the Canadian's contract was not extended and so the Kalamazoo Wings from the ECHL secured the attacker's services in September 2013. After he was able to convince there in the first half of the season, the Wings awarded it to his former club from Worcester, where he finally summed up with 24 points in 25 games foot and in March of the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League committed was . By the end of the season, he received a contract with validity for the AHL, which at the beginning of the 2014/15 season went into an NHL entry contract with a two-year term.
In the Tampas organization, Gourde was active exclusively for Syracuse in the following two seasons - with the exception of his NHL debut over two games in mid-December 2015. In the summer of 2016, the Lightning extended the expired contract for another year and appointed him again for two missions in the NHL squad at the end of December. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, the attacker established himself in the Lightning squad and was named NHL rookie of the month in February 2018 . At the end of the season he had 64 points in 82 games, placing him third in the rookie scorer list and leading all newcomers to the league with a plus / minus rating of +34. In addition, with these 64 points, he set a new franchise record for rookies in Tampa, previously held by Brad Richards (62 points; 2000/01 season).
Gourde then signed a new six-year contract with the Lightning in November 2018, which should bring him an average annual salary of $ 5.166 million from the start of the 2019/20 season.
