Ivan Vladimirovich Provorov ( Russian Иван Владимирович Проворов ; English transcription: Ivan Vladimirovich Provorov ; born January 13, 1997 in Yaroslavl ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League since July 2015 .
Career
Ivan Proworow was born in Yaroslavl and played in his youth for the junior departments of Lokomotive Yaroslavl , the local KHL club. However, he left his home country at the age of 13 when he was piloted by a Ukrainian- born ice hockey coach to the United States , to Wilkes-Barre in the state of Pennsylvania . There the defender ran from then on for the Wilkes-Barre Knights and the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Knights , until he joined the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league in the USA, at the beginning of the 2013/14 season switched to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders . After taking part in the U18 World Cup 2014 with Russia's U18 team, the Russian was selected in the CHL Import Draft 2014 in 30th position by the Brandon Wheat Kings , for whom he will be in the Western with the start of the coming season Hockey League (WHL). At the same time, his hometown club Lokomotive Yaroslavl selected him in 120th position in the KHL Junior Draft 2014 .
In the WHL Proworow established himself straight away, so he led all rookies in the league in assists (46) and scorer points (61) in the 2014/15 season , so that he was invited to the CHL Top Prospects Game and to the East First All-Star Team the WHL was elected. He also represented his home country at the 2015 U20 World Cup , where the team won the silver medal. In the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2015 , the defender was selected in seventh position by the Philadelphia Flyers , who provided him with an entry contract a little later in July 2015 . For the time being, however, Proworow returned for another season in the WHL, in which he won the playoffs for the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Wheat Kings and thus participated in the Memorial Cup 2016 . In addition, he led the league in the plus / minus statistics with +64, so that he was subsequently awarded the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the best defender in the WHL and was again elected to the East First All-Star Team . A little later, the Russian also received the CHL Defenceman of the Year Award. He also took part in the U20 World Cup in 2016 at the turn of the year and won another silver medal there with the Russian selection.
As part of the preparation for the 2016/17 season, Provorov established himself in the Flyers' NHL squad and made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in October 2016 . In his rookie season, the defender never missed a competitive game and scored 30 points in 82 games. He then made his debut for the Russian senior team at the 2017 World Cup , where he won the bronze medal with the team, recording three assists in ten games.
In September 2019, Provorov signed a new six-year contract in Philadelphia that should earn him an average annual salary of $ 6.75 million.
