Career
Michael Raffl is the son of the former VSV player Peter Raffl . Like his older brother Thomas Raffl , he played for the EC VSV as a teenager . At the age of 17 Raffl made his debut in the fighting team in the Austrian ice hockey league in the 2005/06 season , a year later he was a regular. In his six Bundesliga seasons with EC VSV, he was able to continuously increase his points yield, in total he achieved 146 scorer points in 260 games up to 2011, including 75 goals for the EC VSV in the top Austrian division.
For the 2011/12 season Raffl moved to Leksands IF from HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. After good performances and the 2012/13 championship title in the second highest Swedish league, he was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers before the start of the 2013/14 season . He made his debut in the National Hockey League on October 12, 2013 against the Detroit Red Wings . He scored his first NHL goal on December 9, 2013 in the game against the Ottawa Senators and established himself in the Flyers' squad over the following years.
International
In the junior division, Raffl took part in the 2006 U18 World Cup in Division I. With the Austrian U20 team , he took part in the 2007 and 2008 World Cups , when he scored 13 points in five games - with which he, together with the German Frank Mauer, achieved the best score in the tournament - and was voted the best striker of the tournament.
Raffl was first used on February 7, 2008 in the 3-2 win against Italy in the Polish Sanok in the men's national team . In 2009 he was used for the first time at a World Cup , but where he broke his collarbone in the second game of the top division against the United States and was out for the rest of the tournament. He was then used in the top division at the 2011 , 2013 and 2015 World Championships , but, as in 2009, could not avoid relegation to Division I. The ascent succeeded without him. He also represented the team from the Alpine region at the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games and at the Winter Games in Sochi itself.
