Christian Witt-Dörring (born January 2, 1953 in Gmunden ) is a former Austrian ski racer . His greatest success was the overall and downhill victory in the 1974 European Cup .

Career

Witt-Dörring came to the Radstadt Ski Club at the age of ten . After his first successes in school races, he switched to the ski school in Stams . At the end of the 1960s, the downhill specialist was added to the squad of the Austrian Ski Association . Salzburg's first major successes in the European Cup came in the 1972/73 season . He celebrated his first win on the first descent from Les Menuires and third on the second. He achieved another third place in the giant slalom in Obertauern . He was sixth in the downhill classification and twelfth in the overall classification. The following season 1973/74 was his most successful: He won the downhill runs from Avoriaz and Haus , finished second in both downhill runs from La Foux d'Allos and finished third in the giant slalom from Haus and the second downhill from Avoriaz. He celebrated a superior victory in the downhill classification and also won the overall classification, in front of his team-mate Josef Loidl . Due to the success of the European Cup, Witt-Dörring also made few appearances in the World Cup , but did not achieve any appealing results there. In the 1974/75 season , Witt-Dörring was unable to match its previous year's results and only came third in the two downhill runs from Laax . After this rather weak season, he ended his sporting career at the age of 22.
