Jingzhou ( Chinese  荆州 市 , Pinyin Jīngzhōu Shì ) is a Chinese prefecture-level city with 6.47 million inhabitants (2005). The 2000 census counted 6,279,990 inhabitants. The city is located in the south of Hubei Province . The administrative area of ​​the city of Jingzhou, which extends over an area of ​​14,104 km², Jingzhou is part of the important western industrial bases (besides Yichang and Jingmen) of Hubei with emphasis on power supply, petroleum industry, chemical industry as well as light and textile industry. Jingzhou, especially Shashi, is very polluted.

Administrative structure

At the county level, Jingzhou consists of two city districts, three counties and three independent cities. These are:

  • Shishou City - 石 首 市Shíshǒu Shì ; 1,427 km², 650,000 inhabitants;
  • Songzi City - 松滋 市Sōngzī Shì ; 2,235 km², 840,000 inhabitants.
