history
The forest area was established in 1970 by separating areas from Fang, Xingshan and Badong counties and merging them into Shennongjia. The Shennong Xi rises at the Great and Small Shennongjia and flows into the Yangtze River after 60 km in the Enshi Autonomous District .

"Wild People"
Stories, legends and (supposed) eyewitness accounts of encounters with anthropomorphic beings, the so-called Yeren (野人) (Chinese for " wild man "), have been known from Shennongjia for centuries and again and again today . The lore complex is largely similar to the accounts of snowmen from Tibet . So it is not surprising that Shennongjia is now also a "place of pilgrimage" for cryptozoologists from China and z. Some of it has also come from abroad.
