New admissions to the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage 2016
In 2016, the following new admissions to the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage took place:
World heritage
At its 40th meeting from July 10 to 20, 2016, the World Heritage Committee added 21 sites to the UNESCO World Heritage List , including twelve cultural heritage sites (K), six natural heritage sites (N) and three mixed cultural and natural heritage sites (K / N). One of these sites was also placed on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger ( R ).
World Heritage List
The following sites have been added to the World Heritage List:
The following nominations were not included in the World Heritage List:
- Koytendag Mountain Ecosystem (N, Turkmenistan)
- Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex (N, Thailand)
- Tectonic-volcanic ensemble of the Chaîne des Puys and the Limagne Graben (N, France)
- Pimachiowin Aki (K, Canada)
- Key works of modern architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright (K, USA)
The following significant changes to the limits were rejected:
- Panamá Viejo archaeological site and the historic old town of Panamá (K, Panama)
The following sites were withdrawn prior to the meeting:
- Mining and cultural landscape of the Ore Mountains / Krušnohoří (Germany, Czech Republic)
- Building of the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale)
- Primeval forests of Komi (extension, Russia)
- Western Caucasus (extension, Russia)
- Historical core of Cetinje (Montenegro)
- Churches and Christian Sites in Nagasaki (Japan)
- Seowon, Confucian Academies of Korea (South Korea)
Red List
The following were included in the Red List of World Heritage in Danger:
- Leptis Magna archaeological site (K, R , Libya)
- Sabratha archaeological site (K, R , Libya)
- Archaeological site of Cyrene (K, R , Libya)
- Rock paintings by Tadrart Acacus (K, R , Libya)
- Old town of Ghadames (K, R , Libya)
- Old towns of Djenné (K, R , Mali)
- Nan Madol (K, R , Micronesia)
- Historic center of Shahrisabz (K, R , Uzbekistan)
The following has been deleted from the red list:
- Historic churches of Mtskheta (Georgia, World Heritage since 1994, Red List since 2009)
