World heritage in Uzbekistan
The World Heritage in Uzbekistan (as of 2016) includes five UNESCO World Heritage sites , including four World Cultural Heritage sites and one World Natural Heritage site. Ichan Qalʼа , the first World Heritage Site in Uzbekistan , was entered on the World Heritage List in 1990, when Uzbekistan was still a Union Republic of the Soviet Union . After its independence, Uzbekistan first had to submit its own tentative list , which happened in 1994. Thereupon UNESCO confirmed the registration of the historical center of Buxoro as the second world heritage site of Uzbekistan in the list of the UNESCO world heritage. As the last World Heritage site in Uzbekistan to date, the cross-border natural world heritage site Western Tian Shan Mountains was added to the World Heritage List.
