The Vobkent Minaret is a structure in the Uzbek city of Vobkent in the Bukhara Province .
history
The 12th century , in which the minaret was erected, represented an age of changing rulers in what is now Bukhara Province. Often spiritual leaders with the title Sadr ruled over the region, which belonged to the local dynasty of the Burhanids. In the base of the minaret there is an inscription that identifies the builder of the tower as the son of Sadr Abdalaziz II.
description
The minaret has a total height of 40.3 meters measured from the base of the base. The minaret is adorned by ten strips of bricks, which are spread across the tower from top to bottom. These ribbons are decorated with characters and drawings. The fourth volume, seen from below, contains information on the time of construction and the owner of the minaret.
The minaret is similar to the Kalon minaret of Bukhara , but differs in its filigree decorations. The model for both structures can be found on the site of the mausoleums of Ösgön . There is also a minaret in a similar style, which was built before those in Bukhara and Vobkent.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
On January 18, 2008, the Uzbek UNESCO Commission entered the Vobkent minaret on the list of proposals for world heritage . The justification for the application is the good condition of the building and the importance of the research on Central Asian architecture.
