World Heritage in Bangladesh

The world heritage in Bangladesh (as of 2016) includes three UNESCO world heritage sites , including two world cultural heritage sites and one world natural heritage site. Bangladesh joined the World Heritage Convention in 1983, and the first World Heritage site was added to the World Heritage List in 1985. The last World Heritage site to date was registered in 1997.

World heritage sites

The following table lists the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Bangladesh in chronological order according to the year of their inclusion on the World Heritage List (K - cultural heritage, N - natural heritage, K / N - mixed, (R) - on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger ).

1985 K 322 Paharpur is a ruin site whose buildings were built at the time of the Buddhist Pala dynasty (8th to 12th centuries). The original monastery complex covered nine hectares and the monastery was an important intellectual and spiritual center far beyond the region.

They cover an area of ​​about 10,000 km² and extend across borders into Bangladesh (about 6,000 km²) and India (about 4,000 km²). Around 2,700 km² are protected as nature parks. They have a unique flora and fauna and are the last retreats for endangered animal species such as the Bengal tiger .
