Lucifer is an American television series that was initially broadcast on Fox from January 25, 2016 to May 28, 2018 and will be produced on behalf of Netflix from season four . It is based on the comics of the same name by Mike Carey (figure devised by Neil Gaiman ) , which appeared on the Vertigo label , and was adapted by Tom Kapinos , the creator of Californication . In German-speaking countries, the first season was released on July 15, 2016 on Amazon Video via streaming . It was broadcast on free TV from February 1, 2017 on ProSieben .

The second season began broadcasting in the US on September 19, 2016. On October 31, 2016, it was announced that the second season had been increased from 13 to 22 episodes due to good ratings. In February 2017, the series was extended for a third season. In March 2017, Fox announced that four stand-alone episodes of the second season will only be broadcast in the fall of 2017 and thus assigned to the third season. The second season consisted of only 18 episodes.

Netflix commissioned the production of a fourth season of ten episodes of Lucifer in June 2018 after the series was initially discontinued by Fox in May 2018 after three seasons. Despite the change in the US, the fourth season in Germany and Austria has been back on Prime Video since May 9, 2019 .

In June 2019, Netflix extended the series for a fifth season, with a total of 16 episodes. Actor Dennis Haysbert will take on the role of God , who has never been seen on the series before.

In June 2020, Netflix commissioned the production of a sixth and final season.

action

The series is about Lucifer, who, bored and unhappy, gives up hell and his throne to run a nightclub called "Lux" in Los Angeles with the help of his demonic bartender Mazikeen . However, he has not lost his desire to punish the guilty, which is why he supports the LAPD - more precisely: Detective Chloe Decker - with his supernatural abilities. However, his unauthorized absence from work calls his brother - the angel Amenadiel - on the plan, who wants to persuade Lucifer to return, otherwise he will get his "job" hung up. Since Lucifer does not specifically understand human feelings (or his own, since he begins to feel them himself), he seeks professional help from the psychotherapist Linda Martin. The characters regularly clear up murder cases in the individual episodes, while the viewer is slowly introduced to Lucifer's motivations and his problematic relationship with his father and mother.
