World Heritage in Nepal

The world heritage in Nepal (as of 2018) includes four UNESCO world heritage sites , including two world cultural heritage sites and two world natural heritage sites. Nepal joined the World Heritage Convention in 1978, the first two World Heritage sites were added to the World Heritage List in 1979. The last World Heritage site to date was registered in 1997.

World heritage sites

The following table lists the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Nepal in chronological order according to the year of their inclusion in the World Heritage List (K - cultural heritage, N - natural heritage, K / N - mixed, (R) - on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger ).

1979 K 121 This includes seven groups of buildings and monuments: The Durbar Square of Hanuman Dhoka (Kathmandu) , Durbar Square of Patan and Durbar Square of Bhaktapur (with Nyatapola Temple ), the two Buddhist stupas of Swayambhunath and Bodnath and the two Hindu temples by Pashupatinath and Changu Narayan .

Kathmandu was badly damaged during an earthquake in 2015.

Sagarmatha National Park

As of 2018, 15 sites are entered in the tentative list of Nepal, the last entry was made in 2008. The following table lists the sites in chronological order according to the year of their inclusion in the tentative list.

2008 K 5256 The medieval old town of Lo Manthang, the former capital of the Kingdom of Lo, is surrounded by a six meter high wall made of mud bricks.
Vajrayogini and Sankhu early settlement 2008 K 5257 Sankhu ( location ) is a traditional settlement of Newari in the northeast corner of the Kathmandu Valley . The proposal also includes the Vajrayogini Temple ( Lage ), about 1.5 km north of the village .
