Ron Crayden

Ron Crayden (* 1920 in Brixton (London) , † December 9, 2007 in London ) was an English table tennis player who took part in six world championships.

Career

Ron Crayden took part in a total of six world championships as an active player from 1948 to 1961 . He was fourth with the English team in 1951 and 1961 . In 1951 he also reached the quarterfinals in doubles. In many international encounters up to 1970 he acted as a non-playing captain. He was nominated 16 times as a player, 225 times he was captain of the English team.

His career was interrupted by World War II , during which he served in the Royal Air Force.

Ron Crayden wrote many articles on table tennis. His book The Story of Table Tennis - the first 100 years , published in 1995, received a lot of attention .

For his services to table tennis, he was awarded the ITTF Merit Award in 1989.

Private

Ron Crayden was also active in tennis. He won 45 tournaments in the London area. He was married and had a daughter.
