New admission to the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage in 1981

In 1981 the following new admissions to the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage took place:

Great Barrier Reef
Garden side of the Würzburg Residence
Zoomorph in Quiriguá
Haida - Longhouse in Gwaii Haanas National Park
Alamgiri Gate of Lahore Fort

At the request of seventeen of its members, the World Heritage Committee met in Paris on September 10 and 11, 1981, for its first extraordinary session, mainly to discuss the inscription of the Old City and the city walls of Jerusalem on the World Heritage List. At its fifth ordinary session in Sydney from October 26 to 30, 1981 , the World Heritage Committee added 26 more sites from 13 countries to the UNESCO World Heritage List, including 15 cultural (K) and 11 natural (N) sites.
