New admission to the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage in 1979
In 1979 the following new admissions to the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage took place:
World heritage
At its third meeting from October 22 to 16, 1979 in Cairo and Luxor , Egypt , the World Heritage Committee added 45 sites from 18 countries to the UNESCO World Heritage List, including 34 cultural (K), ten natural (N ) and a mixed cultural and natural heritage site (K / N). For the first time, a cross-border World Heritage site was designated and another was placed on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger (R) .
World Heritage List
The following sites have been added to the World Heritage List:
The decision to enter the World Heritage List has been postponed for the following sites:
- Ichkeul National Park (Tunisia, N), was added a year later,
- Ruins of Paphos (Cyprus, K), was added a year later,
- Monastery complex San Salvatore / Santa Giulia (Italy, K), was only included in the list of world heritage sites in 2011 as part of the serial cultural heritage The Lombards in Italy, Places of Power .
Definitely rejected
- Zembra National Park and Zembretta Islands (Tunisia, N),
- Iles de la Madeleine (Senegal, N).
Red List
The Bay of Kotor was placed on the Red List at the request of the State Party of Yugoslavia. The Kotor region was badly affected by an earthquake in 1979.
