World Heritage in Ghana

The world heritage in Ghana (as of 2018) includes two UNESCO world heritage sites , both of which are world cultural heritage sites. Ghana ratified the World Heritage Convention in 1975, and the first World Heritage site was added to the World Heritage List in 1979. The last World Heritage site to date was registered in 1980.

World heritage sites

The following table lists the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Ghana in chronological order according to the year of their inclusion in the World Heritage List (K - cultural heritage, N - natural heritage, K / N - mixed, (R) - on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger ).

Traditional Ashanti buildings
Traditional Ashanti buildings 1980 K 35 The traditional buildings of the Ashanti people are the last structural evidence of the Ashanti Empire . They were built from clay, straw and wood and are therefore prone to the effects of the weather. 10 buildings in the villages of Abetifi , Abirim , Akoboanbong , Asawase , Asenemaso , Bogyease , Darkwa , Jachie , Kentenkrono , Patakro , Obomeng near Kumasi were recognized.

The sites that are intended for nomination for inclusion in the World Heritage List are entered in the tentative list .

Current World Heritage candidates

Currently (2016) six sites are entered in the tentative list of Ghana, the last entry was made in 2000. The following table lists the sites in chronological order according to the year of their inclusion in the tentative list.
